I want to share this story with you. Some may think its a little "out there", but my Mom and I loved sharing it.
Everyone knows that when you have a birthday--the birthday boy/girl is suppose to get the gifts and the parties, right? Well, when I was in mid twenties and my birthday was right around the corner I wanted to change things up a bit. I wanted to make it my Mom's day instead of mine. I mean, she did give me life, taught me everything, gave me strength, cared for me when sick, you get the picture. I wanted this to be a day to remember and boy was it.
I was born at 3:05 pm. I have always said I wasn't officially my new age until that time of day. (yea I know, it's weird). So, on my 26th birthday I set my plan in motion. I picked up the phone and called Mom at 3:03 pm. Mom answers the phone and we say our hello's/how are you's and then I asked her how she was feeling. Mom hesitated and said she felt fine and asked why. I said "Are you sure? You're not in any pain?" She hesitated again and said she felt fine and was wondering if I was ok. I told her I was kind of in a dark place at that moment, but I could see the light. Mom finally said, "Mary, what the hell is wrong with you? I am fine!" I giggled and said, "ok Momma its time to push---are you ready----its ok---it will be over in a couple minutes". By this point she was freaking out, not knowing what the heck I was talking about. I continued telling her to "Breeeeathe, breeeathe, haa haa hooooo hhaaa haaa hoooo hooo" (those that have had a baby know what that is). Then finally she got it and said "OH MY GOODNESS, you little shit and we both had a good laugh. Later that day I went to see my Mom and I actually took her a baby bouquet with a "It's a girl" balloon and thanked her for all she had done for me, being my best friend and for just being my Mom.
